TOEFL iBT also known as TOEFL iBT Next Generation measures your ability to understand and communicate in English for the academic world.

In about 4 hours the Internet-based test measures all four language skills in four sections.

The reading and listening questions vary in format and purpose from basic infomation questions to connecting information and pragmatic understanding questions.

The test also includes speaking and writing tasks where test takers need to demonstrate:

how much they understand from reading and/or listening,
to what extent they can be accurate to the information presented, and
how data is organized and related in the context of a class lecture, a reading passage or a conversation between students;
test takers are also evaluated against their organization and clarity of ideas and the appropriate use of vocabulary and grammar.

A note about your TOEFL password

Passwords must be a minimum of 8 characters in length. The maximum is 16 characters.

For added security, they must also contain three of the following four character categories:

UPPERCASE CHARACTERS (A through Z)
lowercase characters (a through z)
Numeric characters (0 through 9)
Special characters (for example, !, $, #, %)
Examples of allowable passwords are:

Urt#5489
RT@GR125
UIrty452
H!tTh3M2rK
Your password is case-sensitive. For example, "H!tTh3M@rK" is not equal to h!TtH3m@Rk.

Only English characters are allowed and your password cannot contain your user name, first/given name, or last/family name.

Ets.org has instituted a policy of not accepting passwords containing overly used or easily guessed words such as the word "password" or common colors (for example, "blue1234"). If your entry violates this list, you will be required to try again. Please choose a password that is less easily guessed.

If you are an existing user, ets.org keeps a record of your previous passwords. When changing your password, you may not reuse any of your five previous password choices.
